A FEW NOTES ABOUT THE BAND AND THIS MINI ALBUM

".. the Cannanes have returned and showed us why they deserve to be regarded as true innovators of indie pop" --[ review of Small Batch ] Trevor Smith, CMJ March 2013

" Cardigan-owners, rejoice! ..." [ review of Small Batch ] Marc Hogan for spin.com 9th January 2013

"... a dream pop manifesto, but has anyone ever woken up from a dream as gorgeous as "You Name it"?" --Greil Marcus, SALON

"Australia's secret pride, and the most casual indie-pop band anywhere" --VILLAGE VOICE

Australian band, The Cannanes, have to be one of the world's longest lived "indie" outfits with a history so vast we can't even begin to tell it here. Their prolific musical career has taken them around the world, where they crossed paths with countless influential artists and tastemakers. Perhaps one of their most significant collaborations has been with producer and multi-instrumentalist, Stephen Hermann, who has returned on the new EP. Hermann is the founder of Explosion Robinson, an NYC-based music and sound design company. Some of his other projects include Anthem Facility, Casiocore, and Sukpatch. The last time The Cannanes teamed up with Hermann, the resulting album Trouble Seemed so far Away (Slabco records) received extensive airplay and garnered glowing reviews on both sides of the Pacific. This six track EP sees The Cannanes at their best with simple, clear descriptions of fun, daily life and despair that have characterized their best work over the last 27 years. This band will never stop because they don't know how to do anything else. They will never be famous but if you hear these songs you will like them. It's just the way things are...

A FEW NOTES ABOUT THE BAND AND THIS ALBUM

Lamingtone Records is proud to present the debut CD reissue of The (ex) Cat Heads' classic Our Frisco (Cat. No. Lamo 2), in a limited edition.. This classic album from San Francisco heroes of the early 90's is as sublime today as it was then. Once there was a band called the Catheads. Then they became The (ex) Cat Heads. These are their songs. Originally released on vinyl in 1990 on Twitch City, Lamingtone's deluxe CD reissue of Our Frisco is digitally remastered by Wally Sound ("Zombie Heaven" box set), and contains four previously unreleased bonus tracks and additional photographs. Starting off the album is "Too Little Too Late". listen to the lyrical bass, jangling guitars, its broken promise sentiment with the bouncing melody. Anti Song with its twirly dance vibe and the verve of a psychedelic protest song. "Anti Song is about everything. "This song doesn't want to sell you an identity/this song doesn't want to tell you what you want to hear/This song doesn't make to want to love your country/This song doesn't bring the revolution any nearer...". it is a rare delight to find an album where every song forms a part of a greater whole - Our Frisco is such a recording. A FEW NOTES ABOUT THE BAND AND THIS ALBUM

- The Cannanes have a new CD Trouble seemed so far away which is probably the best thing they have ever done. A collaboration with New York audio genius Stephen Hermann aka Explosion Robinson, the CD was recorded, mixed and mastered in Manhattan and Sydney

"A dream pop manifesto but has anyone ever woken up from a dream as gorgeous as You Name It" Greil Marcus Salon 18/12/0

- The songs are reflections on real life - on why living in Sydney is better than New York, on why weddings can be bad news, on old and new friends and playing in bands. These are the days of your life. The music is sublime

They say everyone owns at least one Cannanes record- It's time to make it two

"Treehouses. Moonlight hikes on the sand dunes. Making instant pudding. The Cannanes whisper softly, transporting the listener to meditative places. Take the feedback out of My Bloody Valentine and add the lazy, loping loops, and stutter stops of Ex-Rob and you've got a sense of the album." Tokion magazine August 2002

- Cannanes will be doing a series of Australian launches from the end of October 2002

"Trouble Seemed So Far Away, a collaboration with Sukpatch beatsmith and NYC producer Explosion Robinson, finds the Cannanes on a mellow path onward. Matching loops and shimmering effects to the band's dulcet tones, Mr. Robinson layers subtle filaments of keyboard and vocals atmospherics on reflective numbers like "This Is the Song" and "It's Hopeless." Gibson has a swell knack for interpreting vocal nuance" Solvej Schou: CMJ New Music Report Issue: 763 - 20/5/02

The Cannanes -

- are based in Sydney Australia - have had numerous releases in the USA, Europe, Australia and Japan

- collaborate with various interstate + overseas musician / writer / producers

- have toured the USA 6 times and toured in Europe and Japan playing with great bands such as Hood, Sleater Kinney and Low as well as rare appearances in Australia

- rate exclusive mentions in Spin Alternative Record Guide, Trouser Press Guide to 90's rock, Virgin Encyclopedia of Indie and New Wave, the Encyclopedia of Australian Rock and

- have sworn they will play until they die

- are probably the best band you will never see

Watch out for the 50 minute documentary currently in production in Sydney on the story of the Cannanes
